The Ragdoll was developed in the 1960s in Riverside, California, by breeder Ann Baker. Its foundation cat was a white longhaired cat named Josephine.

In 1803 the US bought the Louisiana Territory from France for about $15 million. The deal roughly doubled the size of the country.
